The outermost layer of the skin is the epidermis. It consists of stratified squamous epithelium. The surface layer of the epidermis is keratinized.
The dermis and hypodermis are largely connective tissues, and within these connective tissues are a variety of skin components such as glands, vessels, nerve fibers, etc.
